It's only Wednesday?

Seriously? Man, this week is dragging. I miss the girls so much by Wenesday night, because I have my graduate class on Tuesday so I go from 7 on Tuesday morning to 6 on Wednesday morning without seeing my girls! :(

It's almost like they are oxygen for me. When I'm apart from them for too long I feel out of balance and I need to be with them to feel right again. What a powerful love being a mom has shown me. Who else in this world do we love more intensely than our own children. It's an amazing gift.

Hannah is showing a young obsession with shoes. It is so funny! Every morning before we go to daycare I put her shoes on her feet. And when we walk by her shoe basket, even when she has shoes on her feet, she finds her second pair of shoes and yells "MIne! MINE! MINE!" She would wear both pairs of shoes if it were possible. I'm thinking I need to start saving for her future shoe addiction...

Finally Friday

Thank goodness Friday finally came. What a long week at work. Love my job so much, but it has been a draining week for sure.

Emily continues to struggle to sleep through the night. She is doing far better about staying in her bed once we put her to sleep (mostly, I think, because we are more firm with her about that). But she'll come into our room in the middle of the night to "cuggle", which was cute when she was 2 and little. Now she's 3 and a half and takes up a lot of room since she sleeps all spread out. The other night she threw such a massive tantrum at 4 am because I told her she had to go back to her own bed. She screamed and cried so hard she woke Hannah up. Not fun!

Tonight the Vigues came over for dinner. I love watching the girls interact with their friends. Hannah just wants to be included in whatever the big kids are doing, and 9 times out of 10, Emily plays dress up with my old dance recital costumes. Even Luke was sporting a pink, lacy dress tonight! I love our little family and the memories we are making with our girls.

Back again!

Ok, so I kind of suck at blogging. I really wanted this to be a permanent record of the Carlton family life...so I'm going to try to do a better job of recording our happenings!

Hannah is 15 months old. She is the sweetest ray of sunshine. Her little smile makes her cheeks get even bigger and she smiles with her whole body. She was starting so scream and/or grunt when she wanted something, which loses its' appeal rather quickly. But now she has learned how to sign for "please" and she says it like "peas" in a raspy whisper. So cute! Now we ask her to say please all the time...and she's so proud of herself!

She is also imitating counting, so if we say "one', she always repeats, in a low whipser "twoooooooo" and she bends her knees at the same time. Two is pretty much the only number that she knows, but it's so cute and we are so excited about it! :)

Emily is 3.5 going on 14. Three is a tough age, but it's so fun at the same time because she really is starting to develop her own personality. She loves to put on shows for us...sometimes a dance show, sometimes a singing show, and other times a fashion show. She is quite the performer! She is doing ballet with Miss Laurie and she loves it, especially her tutu. And now her hair is finally long enough to put into little pigtails which are "just ravishing" as she tells us.

Emily is a wealth of scientific information. Yesterday, while driving home from the dentist with her (along with about 6 different prizes she got at the dentist, good lord!) she informed me that apples help you poop. Now that we all know that...I'm off to bed!

April vacation

Sigh. We just had the most wonderful April vacation. The weather was fabulous and we had so much fun playing with the girls. Here are some updates:

Emily is 3 now. She had 3 birthday parties with a Princess and Tinkerbell theme. She was spoiled beyond means with her gifts and with having her family and friends around. She really enjoys her new Barbie Jeep and Basketball hoop. Emily loves to play outside. She would be out there from sun up to sun down! She plays in her sandbox, rides her tricycle and explores the world around her. She loves to look at the birds and bugs. I think she'll have a real knack for science. Her cousin Gage gave her a magnifying glass and binoculars for her birthday that she uses frequently!

Emily is also working on potty training. She's doing a pretty good job so far! It is definitely a process though. I just got a call at work from her excitedly telling me that she had pooped on the potty! It's the little things that make us happy! :)

Hannah (or Hannie as we call her) is 10 months old. She is so funny and loving. When I pick her up to give her a hug she squeezes my back with her little hands. When she is tired she lays her head down and tucks her hand under her belly...so sweet! She isn't saying too many words, but she is making A LOT of noise! She has this funny little growling sound that she makes, especially when we aren't feeding her fast enough. She is eating SO much right now. She much prefers to feed herself than to be fed babyfood...she adores bananas, cheerios, cantaloupe, and toast!

She is crawling and starting to look like she wants to walk. She smiles all of the time and loves to be around Emily. They have started playing together somewhat which is so nice to see!

I was sad to leave the girls this morning and can't wait to get home from work and smooch their little faces!

8 months!

Hannah is now 8 months old. It's so funny how I was so focused on her getting olderwhen she was a newborn...couldn't wait for her to get to be 3 months old. That was the promised land of less colicky screaming and more sleeping! But once she hit that mark time has flown by! She is crawling alllllll over the place, and said her first words this week. She says, "all done!" when she is done eating dinner. She follows me wherever I go and still loves playing with big sister Emily.

Emily is doing better with potty training. She went two times today. She seems to do the best when we let her run around without a diaper on. My thought is that we will get it down pat over summer break...because it's hard for her to be sans diaper at daycare! Time will tell...

We just had February vacation and it was great. Andy was finally done with basketball season so he was able to be home at night which we all benefitted from! We did some shopping, some playing with the girls, visiting with family and going to the boys basketball playoffs. It was nice to be together as a family. We even got some projects done around the house! Even though I'm not excited to go back to work I'm grateful that I have a job to go back to!

SIck House

I *think* we are over our sickness this week. Hannah had her first stomach bug...complete with puke and diarrhea. Poor baby! But honestly, she was so happy! She would get sick and then 10 seconds later be blowing raspberries (by far her favorite noise/trick!).

Emily had her pediatric urology appt. yesterday where they manually separated her adhesions. After 30 seconds of discomfort for our brave girl, the adhesions are mostly taken care of. There is a chance they could re-adhere, but we're thinking positive! So needless to say I have been letting the girls lay low and recover!

Tonight I asked Emily "When are you going to start peeing on the potty?" Her response, "Ummm......around 6:30." LOL...that girl cracks me up! Hannah is learning how to wave and clap her hands. I absolutely love this age..she is so happy and cuddly! I wish I could always figure out what she wants though, life does get easier when they can talk!

Things to lose

Sometimes it strikes me when I am looking at my family...Andy, Emily and Hannah that it is a pretty overwhelming feeling to realize just how much I have to lose. Tonight I was cuddling on the couch with Emily, who is feeling kind of yucky and missed her nap today. She was snuggling as close as she could possibly get to me and just that feeling of cuddling with her and knowing that to her, I am her comfort was kind of overwhelming. Sometimes I get an ache in my heart when I really think about how much I love these girls, and the thought of not having them in my life is truly impossible to fathom.

Daily Update

It's been so long since I've blogged....between the girls, keeping up with the house and a job that is all of a sudden becoming incredibly busy this has been low on my priority list.

But I was thinking as I was looking at Hannah's sweet sweet 7 month old face that I had better start really writing down the memories now, so that I don't forget them. I look at her sweet face, her two bottom teeth and her huge smile and can't believe that I once held Emily and played the same rounds of peek-a-boo with her, and that she is almost 3! So, my "goal" is to blog on here everynight, mostly just for my sake so that I have a permanent record of life with my girls.

Hannah is getting so close to crawling. She can get where she wants to go, whether it's doing the plank position, rolling or crawling backwards! I think we are in for it when she can finally chase after her big sister, whom she unequivicobly adores!

Emily is all into princess things right now. We were in a massive Cinderella phase but seemed to have transitioned to Beauty and the Beast as of late. She has been waking up several times a night to try and sleep in our bed which we are trying to discourage. The other night Andy put her back in her bedroom and she was angry! We heard her say, in her Cinderella-induced talk, "My dream come true is NOT to go to sleep!" Even though it was 4am we had to laugh! Always the drama queen, that one. She has also been standing "on stage" and singing songs for us. Our favorite is her rendition of "Country Road" that she picked up from Luke at daycare. She is definitely an entertainer!
